Leg Veins, Spider Veins
Injectable Treatment for Leg Veins
Spider veins are usually red or purple and very tiny, located near the surface of the skin, and reticular veins are the small blue-green veins which feed into spider veins. Both are common in the legs of adults, and they may appear flat or begin to protrude. Their appearance can make many people feel self-conscious of their legs and cause them to cover up with long pants, even in summer. At Cosmedica, we offer sclerotherapy in Burlington to help patients from Hamilton, Oakville, Brantford, Mississauga, and other nearby areas feel more confident. This incredible, easy vein treatment can effectively restore the beauty of your legs in only a few brief sessions.
We can help you look and feel your best. To learn more about reducing the look of visible veins with sclerotherapy, request a consultation or call Cosmedica at (905) 631-6288.

More About Sclerotherapy Injections
Improving Your Confidence
Visible spider and reticular veins occur due to excessive back pressure caused by improper function of the valves in larger veins. This pressure causes a backflow of blood that enlarges and eventually weakens veins. Although the condition is usually hereditary, other contributing factors can include pregnancy, weight gain, standing for prolonged periods of time, or habitually crossing legs.
Sclerotherapy is performed through a series of injections. Using a fine needle, a nurse injects a special solution into the veins. The solution causes the lining of the blood vessels to swell and close the vein. Once treated, the vein eventually disappears and dissolves.
You can expect about a 75% improvement in the appearance of leg veins after several treatments. Veins may sometimes require more than 1 injection before they become less apparent, because larger veins “feed” smaller veins. Larger veins are typically treated first.
While the veins treated by sclerotherapy will not come back, new blood vessels may appear over time due to heredity or lifestyle factors. Therefore, ongoing maintenance may be required. Physical exercise, avoidance of standing for long periods, daily use of compression leggings, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding excessively crossing your legs are all ways to prevent new veins from appearing.
